DIVE INSTRUCTOR/ CORAL RESTORATION OFFICER
We are recruiting a full time Dive Instructor and Coral Restoration Officer to lead all operations at our PADI Eco Centre.

Location: Maldives

Contract Duration: 1 year (with the
possibility of extension)

Start Date: September 2025

Position Type: Paid position ($600
USD monthly stipend and 10% commission on dive courses, plus additional commission for coral restoration volunteers).

Deadline to Apply: 20th August 2025.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview on a rolling basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Dive Instruction & Guest Engagement
  • Teach all levels of diving, from Discover Scuba Diving to Divemaster, in accordance with PADI standards
  • Guide fun dives with conservative dive plans
  • Conduct briefings and debriefings with divers
  • Lead and organise regular Dive Against Debris sessions
  • Assist with guided snorkelling excursions when required
  • Coral Restoration & Volunteer Leadership
  • Teach REEF GURU Coral Restoration and Coral Conservation courses (certification to teach will be provided)
  • Lead the Coral Restoration Volunteer Program, including:
  • Collecting coral fragments for propagation
  • Building and maintaining coral frames
  • Deploying and maintaining rope nurseries, table nurseries, and coral trees
  • Overseeing volunteer participation and data entry in coral restoration activities

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Minimum PADI Open Water Instructor certification, in active teaching status
  • Strong understanding of coral biology (or a willingness to learn)
  • Fluent English
  • Familiarity with Indian Ocean coral species and coral ID (or willingness to learn)
  • Experience with in-situ coral restoration, including attachment of coral fragments to artificial frames and nurseries, as well as maintenance
  • Professional, polite, and guest-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high standards
  • Organised, motivated, and willing to manage all aspects of a dive centre
  • Physically fit, able to carry up to 20kg and work long hours in the ocean
  • Experience diving under varying conditions
  • Excellent communication, teamworking and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible and willing to work extended hours during busy periods

Desirable:

  • Prior experience working as a dive instructor with a certification record
  • Conservation-oriented mindset
  • Experience managing social media platforms for outreach and promotion
  • Strong team-working skills and willingness to collaborate with a local marine conservation NGO
  • Experience managing volunteers
  • Experience working in a tropical, remote location

What to expect:

  • We are based in a local remote island which follows Islamic laws (no alcohol, no drugs or religious materials, dressed conservatively including while diving)
  • The dive centre is open 6 days / week from 09.00 – 17.00. You will occasionally be expected to work outside these hours to complete administration tasks, night diving etc.
  • On days off you can join Atoll Marine Centre and Atoll Volunteers for a free excursion (weather permitting) to explore the Atoll
