Vacancy Announcement: Dive Operations Manager / Marine Ecologist

What we offer:
Working with a small, highly effective team, the individualised diving and dive training occur in small groups, with all diving activities linked to conservation interpretation. Working at an award-winning conservation and sustainability NGO in the North-East Tobago UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Reserve, I engage in established conservation projects related to sharks, corals, and turtles.
The basic salary is USD 1,200 (Instructor, BSC) or USD 1,350 (Instructor, MSc), paid partly in local currency and partly in USD, along with a 10% commission on dive income exceeding a threshold of USD 5,000 (personal governmental taxes and levies to be covered by the instructor). Accommodation includes a self-contained apartment with wifi, laundry, and a balcony, located just 2 minutes from the beach.
Employees receive 15 working days of holiday each year after the first year, with one day off per week. Duty hours are 48 hours a week on a flexible time basis, and a fully valid work permit is required.
What we expect:
- PADI Instructor, EFR teaching status, with professional and medical insurance.
- BSc, MSc in Biology, Ecology, Conservation Management, or a related field.
- Strong adherence to safety and PADI standards.
- Excellent communication and MS Office skills.
- At least two years’ experience in a dive operation.
- Capable of physically demanding tasks (very rare).
- Strong background in marketing and sales, including social media.
- Experience in a remote, small island environment.
- Strong conservation and naturalist background.
- Own scuba equipment, mobile phone, and laptop.
- Team player with leadership qualities.
- Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are an asset.
- Demonstrably experienced in equipment and compressor maintenance.
- Willing to deliver 40% in water duties and 60% in administrative/marketing/maintenance tasks.
Assets:
- Reef Check Eco Diver (Trainer) is a strong asset.
- Experience in working with NGOS is an additional asset.
- Additional languages, especially German and French, are beneficial.
- Willingness to assist with tasks not directly related to the job description.
- Holder of a Certificate in equipment and compressor maintenance. Awareness of animal welfare.
- Experience in video and Photography.

Our Work at ERIC
NOTE:
There is a training and probationary period of three months. During this time, the candidate will be evaluated and will also have the opportunity to assess whether the position suits them. ERIC will cover accommodation and provide a 400USD stipend per month. Should ERIC or the candidate decide not to continue the engagement, each party will cover half of the initial flight cost, up to a maximum of 600 USD for ERIC. If the engagement continues, ERIC will apply for a work permit for the candidate, and all other conditions will apply.
The position includes conservation and some research activities, but it is not primarily a research position. Successful candidates must be prepared to pay 50% of the security bond required by Immigration, which will be reimbursed at the end of the contract. European, North American, and Caribbean citizens must pay approximately 600 USD; the other 50% will be covered by ERIC.
Once full employment has commenced, the successful candidate will be responsible for the return flight costs, which will be reimbursed by ERIC up to 1,000 Euro after the first year of employment.
